Folkstone Public School is located in the "F" section of Bramalea. The school was built in 1969 to accommodate grades K-6 children from Torbram Road to Finchgate and from Clark Blvd. to Hwy. #7. In the mid-1980's the school population dwindled and Folkstone was designated as a K-5 French Immersion school. Its current French Immersion boundaries are from Torbram Road to Hwy. 410 and Bovaird Drive to Clark Blvd.
The school enrolment is 586 children. Approximately 60% of the students are in French immersion and are bussed to and from school. 98% of the students stay for lunch. The majority (87%) of the students speak English at home and 3% receive English as a Second language instruction.
The school has an active Special Education program and a Library that
includes a substantial number of French and English books, videos and five
Pentium computers. The computer lab has 25 Pentium computers and there is at
least one more in every classroom. Students are encouraged to take advantage of
opportunities to develop their leadership skills by serving as office monitors,
library helpers and bus and foot patrollers.
We also received 4 new Pentium computers, 1 colour printers and 1 scanner for
participating in the community access program (CAP) .
Folkstone School and its School Council have developed a wonderful working
relationship that has a positive impact on student learning. They support the
school by serving on committees, raising funds to support school initiatives and
organizing evening presentations for parents.
